New notebooks have been printed and distributed in 10 schools surrounding Dong Mo Lake, Hanoi in northern Vietnam. The lake is the only known wild location for the critically endangered Swinhoe’s Softshell Turtle (Rafetus swinhoei), considered the worlds most endangered turtle. The new books picture artwork from a competition run for the species in local schools during March 2011 and will remind local school children of the important turtles who are also a part of their community.
