Last weekend, on the 28th of May 2017, Vinh city Environmental Police of Nghe An province, Vietnam, made a confiscation of 11 turtles including eight Oldham’s leaf turtle (Cyclemys oldhamii), two Indochinese box turtle (Cuora galbinifrons) and one Keeled box turtle (Cuora mouhotii) as well as a single Sunda pangolin (Manis javanica). These animals were reportedly being transported on a bus from Quang Binh province to Nghe An in the illegal wildlife trade.
This evening, at 7.30pm of 30th May 2017, we can confirm these turtles have been transferred to Pu Mat Rescue Centre of Pu Mat National Park, Nghe An.
The Asian Turtle Program (ATP) of Indo Myanmar Conservation (IMC) has been working to support the Pu Mat Rescue Centre which has received a number of significant confiscations in recent years. However, due to limited resources the ATP and Turtle Conservation Centre (TCC) has only been able to provide limited technical support and equipment to assist the Pu Mat centre.
