Position Summary
The Veterinarian staff position will be responsible for the health care of freshwater turtles & tortoises at the Turtle Conservation Centre (TCC) in Cuc Phuong National Park, Ninh Binh Province, Vietnam. This will include physical examination for animals, collecting blood and faecal samples and their analysis, providing supportive care, prescribing medications, maintaining animal records and ensuring the good hygiene of the clinic area. This position will have opportunity to work with international veterinarian experts and The Veterinarian staff will work closely with the Veterinary Nurse and communicate actively with the whole team and the Managers to update and provide regular updates and reports. As part of this position we will seek to provide specific tortoise and freshwater turtle veterinary training and support to the successful candidate.
Responsibilities
- Participate in animal health examination and monitoring for turtles and tortoises at the centre
- Participate in supportive care and medical treatment for rescued animals
- Collect samples from animals and complete analysis as part of ongoing health checks
- Update the medical record for animals
- Collaborate with experienced vets to exchange & improve capacity
- Attend rescue and release activities as required
- Report daily to the Animal manager
- Assist keepers to implement daily care for animals in the Veterinary Station
- Support ongoing treatments of animals within the main population, health assessments, deworming etc.
Requirement
- Hold a Veterinary degree and Veterinarian practice certificate.
- Veterinary experience related to animal clinical practice is required, veterinary experience with wildlife is an advantage but not required.
- Have experience in animal keeping.
- Good clinical and organisational skills
- Fluent Vietnamese and good English speaking and writing skills
- Be competent with computers
- Good communication skills, attention to detail and self-direct learning.
- Passionate with animals, wildlife conservation, stand for animal welfare
- Understanding of molecular biology & laboratory experiences preferred
- Proven ability to work independently under challenging conditions
- A strong sense of team spirit and collaboration with local staffs.
