On the 19th of January 2018 we were very excited to capture the best photograph of the world’s rarest turtle in the wild. Nguyen Van Trong of the Asian Turtle Program (ATP) of Indo Myanmar Conservation (IMC) was able to take the picture while working to monitor Swinhoe’s Softshell Turtles (Rafetus swinhoei) in Dong Mo Lake on the outskirts of Hanoi, Vietnam. The species is critically endangered with only three animals currently known in existence globally. Monitoring of the only known wild location for the species is critically to providing a level of protection and increasing our understanding of the species.
