The Asian Turtle Program's twelfth tortoise and freshwater turtle field skills development training course

The Asian Turtle Conservation Program (ATP) of Indo-Myanmar Conservation, in cooperation with Cuc Phuong National Park’s Turtle Conservation Center (TCC) will be hosting its twelfth annual field skills training course focused on research and conservation of tortoises and freshwater turtles. The course is aimed to provide students with basic knowledge about turtle ecology, field skills and survey techniques, field identification, field records, and other practical research methods. Through participation in the course, students will also become aware of the major threats to Vietnam’s tortoise and freshwater turtles, and the role Vietnam plays in the larger regional crisis facing Asian turtles.

Participants will also be given the opportunity to complete a short research project (two to three weeks) during 2016 following the training course. Research projects will be designed and conducted by the students with assistance from the ATP. Small grants will be provided for students to complete these research projects. Projects may also count towards university thesis research if agreed by the student’s university
