1.5 tons of turtles confiscated in Vietnam
On the 20th of April in Nghe An province northern Vietnam 1,490kg of turtles have been confiscated. The shipment which is being dealt with by the provincial Forest Protection Department (FPD) appears to be mostly Yellow-headed Temple Turtles (Heosemys annandalii) although from one photo it appears Asian Giant Tortoise (Manouria emys) are also present. Not a species native to Vietnam. Apparently the female Ho Chi Minh city trader was transporting the animals from Vinh Long province near Ho Chi Minh too the Mong Cai boarder gate in Quang Ninh province where they would cross into China. Photo: from Zing website Many of the animals were around 20kg in weight. Its still not clear what the decision on placement of these animals will be.
